A note from the author
I used to believe finding yourself meant becoming someone new. Now I know that sometimes it means remembering who you were before the world told you who to be.
The Journey of Me: Awakening My Truth began when I questioned the identity and history I had carried for most of my life—and discovered that some of what I believed about myself was never mine to begin with.
Writing it brought me back to the little girl who knew she was different long before she could explain why. She learned to adapt and belong, even when the story she was given did not match what she saw in the mirror.
Awakening brought grief and loss. It also brought freedom: the freedom to stop looking outside myself for permission to know who I am.
My hope is that you recognize a piece of yourself in these pages. If you have questions you have been afraid to ask, or feel yourself outgrowing a version of you that once felt safe, this is my invitation:
Ask the questions. Honor what you discover. Release what was never yours.
This is my journey. Perhaps it will help you begin yours.
In truth and becoming,
Shanda Lee
